The Greatest Gift...Ever
Have you ever heard people talking about salvation, Jesus Christ, or that they "got saved." You might have thought to yourself, "why do I need to be saved?" You might have even thought, "this Jesus stuff is for those people that are really religious." The truth is though, Jesus is for everyone, because that is who he died for, everyone. Through His death and ressurection, we were given the greatest gift: Salvation, so that we might have eternal life.
So, back to the question of "why do you need to be saved?" Well, Romans 3:23 says, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" and Romans 6:23 says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." A sin is anything that violates God's law or Word. For example, let's take the ten commandments. Commandment eight says that you shall not steal. Can you think of a time, anytime in your life that you have ever stolen anything? If so, you have sinned. The next one, Commandment Nine says, You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. Have you ever lied against someone? If so, you have sinned. There are many more examples, but too little space to share them all. You see, we all have sinned in one way or another. Thankfully, Ephesian 2:8-9 tells us that "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast." As sinners, we must repent and be willing to turn from our sin. Luke 13:5 says, "I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish." You see, God's grace and love is so great for us that He does not want us to perish. He has made a way for us, but it is our decision to make. John 3:16 says, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." "For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:10) Jesus said: "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me." (John 14:6)
If you would like to begin to have a relationship with Jesus Christ:
1) Realize that you are a sinner. There is no statute of limitations on sin. If you have done it once, you are guilty. Your conscience testifies that you have broken God's law. Think to a time when your conscience told you it was wrong but you did it anyway.
2) The penalty for sin is death. If Jesus is not your savior then you do not get the gift of God that is eternal life in Jesus, but you will get hell instead. We do not get hell because we do not have Christ. We get hell because of our sins. If we have Christ, we get to escape the punishment (hell) that we would have had without him.
3) Jesus died and took the penalty for our sins upon Himself. So that all those that believe and trust in Him shall have everlasting life. However, there is one more thing we must do. We must repent.
4) Repent means to completely turn away from and stop doing the sins that we have confessed and asked forgiveness for. Today this step is mostly missed or overlooked. Jesus says in Luke 13:3, "I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish."
5) Realize that Jesus is not dead, on the third day He rose again. He is not just a man, but He is also God. We must confess our sins to Him, ask for forgiveness, and put Him in charge of our lives. Jesus is the only way that we can be saved. Jesus said in John 14:6, "I am the way the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Many people feel they don't know how to pray. Praying is easy. Just as you would talk to a friend, just start talking to Jesus. He is waiting for you.
